Summertime Bounty

Wildwood Farmers Market on Main
16860 Main Street
Wildwood MO
Saturday, August 5

I have no profound announcements, stories on food history or amazing recipes to share this week. We are in full blown summer harvest and the bounty of the producers is flooding our home. Our counters, coolers and pantry are bursting and we are very busy, preparing, prepping, preserving and enjoying the beautiful and delcious local produce. The season of preserving the harvest is just starting for us. Jams were ladled into canning jars and will be enjoyed for the coming months. Our seasonal preparation of market veggie soup will soon be prepared and then pressure canned in quart jars to enjoy over the fall and winter months.

This week we have been busy making new market signs. We have also been putting into  motion our long time plan of working with our meat vendors to cook and prepare their various meat cuts to serve to you, the customer. It is quite easy for us to wash, prep and sample the produce  for our fruit and veggie vendors. But the meat vendors need extra health department permits and equipment in order to have the customer sample and taste their meats.

As market managers we do everything that we possibly can to support the vendors and provide the customers with a great experience. We have been working with the vendors and the health department and are ready to prepare and serve a variety of sandwiches at the market tent. From week to week we will feature one or two vendors meats, such as brats, pork burgers, deli ham sandwiches, pulled chicken, brisket and more. We will be using Great Harvest breads and buns, Billy Goat Chips as well as a slice of melon (in season).

See you at the market.
